I overate on New Year's eve, woke up in the middle of the night with burning down my throat (in the neck) and the feeling and taste of vomit in the back of my throat, even though I had not thrown up. This was most likely caused by acid reflux. I drank water, ate Tums, etc., but could not get rid of the terribly unpleasant vomit taste and burning in the back of the throat. Then I tried your baking soda remedy; that feeling was mitigated, then went away! Still felt too full from overeating, but was able to sleep. Woke up feeling normal.
